Howdy!
Welcome to the Library of Weasel. This server is privately owned (by me) and running on my own personal hardware. This collection was started
around 1999, mainly containing stuff that I grew up watching on TV and listening to on the radio but never actually had the privilege of owning as
a kid. Over the years, it has evolved into a pretty decently eclectic collection which I'm constantly curating and updating. I spend dozens of
hours a week working on the library.
** 2024-03-07: I need to take down the server temporarily and swap out the drive cages with some hot-swappable ones. This will allow me to put
all 13 drives inside the server and stop using the external eSATA box which is kind of a pain in the ass, because it contains three of the drives
and if it disconnects for any reason (like power or data cables becoming unplugged) then the RAID instantly fails and I have to do some crazy arcane
goat-based magic rituals in order to get it working again without losing everything in the array. I'll also be able to put the UPS back in service
again since replacing the batteries recently. The whole procedure shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes (hopefully). I need to:
• Move the WEASEL-1 rear tie bar down by 1U
• Move WEASEL-1 down by 1U
• Move the ethernet switch to the front of the rack
• Remove existing drive cages and disconnect eSATA external unit
• Install the 3 hot-swappable drive cages in WEASEL-1
• Replace faulty SATA cables causing errors on ata11 and ata18
• Populate the new cages with all the drives
This server is private and only authorized friends may access it. I will never charge for access, as that would be in violation of the Plex terms
and conditions. Plus, I have no desire to make any money from this collection; I am simply the custodian and steward acting in the interest of the
preservation of this archive's contents.
Sharing access:
In order to discourage wholesale piracy, Plex has a maximum of 100 friends per user, so I can't hand out invitations as often as I would like, since I'm already near the limit.
That said, please feel free to share your login information with friends/family, as Plex doesn't seem to mind if people do that.
Please note that if you recently met an awesome
dude or lady and you want to share the Library of Weasel with them, please think twice first, and know that it's a pain in the ass to remove them if/when they decide to be mean or
cheat on/ghost you after the fact (because people suck.) That said, as a server admin I can't remove their access without removing your entire account from my friends list; so it's
something you'll need to do when logged into your account on the Plex website. There you'll find a settings page with authorized devices you can selectively remove.
Announcements:
The server currently has an issue with the power supply's internal fan and a failure is inevitable; it's making grinding noises at me. Also, a couple of the drives are experiencing
read/write errors and will eventually need to be replaced before they fail. If more than two drives ever fail at the same time, I will lose the contents of the entire library.
That said, I will need to take it offline temporarily in order to move its contents into a new chassis in my server rack and replace the power supply with a spare. This will most
likely occur in the wee hours of night sometime in the first week of February 2024. I'll try to do it when nobody's watching anything.
Storage Formats:
I transcode nearly everything which goes into the library, mostly to save disk space. While some items may get added without any initial transcoding, I generally apply the following
parameters to the media which gets added:

Contact Me:
Please feel free to reach out if you experience any problems with anything in the library, errors in subtitles or descriptions, etc., or if you would
like to request that I add something which isn't in the collection. If it's something I don't necessarily want taking up precious drive space (e.g.,
reality shows, PPV matches, partial seasons of shows which aren't in the library, etc.) then it will likely be added in one of the Temporary
sections, rather than to the main library.
I'm generally reachable via e-mail at <adrian@weasel.net>
and Instagram at @aweaselnamedme.
